Phi configures an expert team to validate and implement a test automation strategy for a global Tier 1 bank
Transformation of the SDLC with Test Automation

Situation

Our client was failing to meet their Continuous Integration goals as part of transformation of their global credit risk technology environment because of an inability to source an experienced test automation workforce.  A team of 30 were required to complete regression testing manually, across the technology stack.

Solution

  • Assembled a team of DevOps SME’s and experienced test automation engineers
  • Defined and implemented our own training programme covering the client technologies
  • Analysed, validated, and enhanced the client’s Test Automation Concept
  • Designed and implemented improvements to both the technology and the workflow to embed the test automation into wider client process
  • Delivery of Test Automation into client’s CI environment

Team

  • 1x DevOps SME functioning as a solution architect and mentor
  • 1x Scrum Master
  • 1x Business Analyst
  • 7x Test Automation Engineers
  • 1x Manual Tester

The Phi team took the client’s test automation approach as a prototype, and transformed this into a production–quality process.

Delivery was guaranteed, with the velocity of each sprint sustained at an agreed rate – 60 test cases per two-week sprit, across four client work streams.

Outcome

  • Approximately 20 client resources previously undertaking manual testing are freed to focus on other priorities
  • The regression test cycle is reduced from several weeks to 6 hours, running overnight, every night
  • Development quality is thereby increased and programme costs are reduced
